Lock Upp: Ekta Kapoor’s Lock Upp plagiarised of ‘The Jail’ script

Producer Ekta Kapoor is launching a new reality show ‘Lock Upp’ on her OTT platform ALT Balaji and MX player and is scheduled to go on-air by 27 February.

However, before the show could go on-air, it has fallen into big fat trouble.

The City Civil Court of Hyderabad has issued an ad-interim injunction on the release which stated that the show is prohibited to broadcast on any electronic media, social media, or other mediums.

The whole story behind this is that the holder of the story and script of ‘Tha Jail’, Sanober Baig has filed this petition.

The show ‘The Jail’ was written by Shaantanu Ray and Sheershak Anand wherein they registered it under the Copyright act on 7 March 2018 while the concept was owned by Pride Media through its proprietor, Sanober Baig.

And now in the petition, Sanober Baig gave all the small details about the concept clarifying how it was developed while he also gave the details of the money which he invested.

Talking about the same, he says, ‘When he saw the promo, he was in shock. He has been in touch with Abhishek Rege from Endemol Shine for a long time and had several meetings about the subject in Hyderabad wherein he promised that once the market gets better, they will get going. He also says that the show is not only similar to their concept but is an absolute copy of the same and he couldn’t believe that somebody could plagiarise the concept to such an extent.

Further, he adds that they have prayed to the court for infringement of the copyright and have got a stay order.

Sanober Baig says that if the show gets aired then it will be a contempt of the court and he has full faith in the judiciary and is sure that justice will be served.

On February 25, Sanober Baig held a press meeting and clarified that the concept of the jail show is been plagiarised by Ekta Kapoor (ALT Balaji), MX Player, and Endemol Shine.
