Emily in Paris Episode 1: Emily’s Move to Paris is Filled with Difficulty

Opening episode of Emily in Paris introduces us to ‘Emily Cooper’, a young ambitious cheerful girl who loves her job (in a marketing firm) and her city (Chicago).

Things takes a turn when her boss Madeline is unexpectedly pregnant and Emily gets a chance to move to Paris for a year.

 As excited as she is to find this chance, as her boyfriend points out her inability to speak French might make her transition difficult in French capital.

All this turns out to be true not long after.

First her boss Sylvie, who gives a very ‘Miranda Priestly’ vibes does not approve of her. Next her work ethics are not taken up very well by her other colleagues.

 From finding everyone too relaxed to come at work to everyone declining her invitation for lunch,

Is Emily Tenacious Enough To Survive This?

Her only ray of hope is her chance encounter with ‘Mindy’, originally from Shanghai she is now working as nanny in Paris for over a year.

 She gave Emily some realistic ideas about life in Paris.

Another insight comes unexpectedly from her another work colleague ‘Luc’ who informs her how everyone at the office is uncomfortable with her crazy work schedule and ideas.

Like he quotes ‘Americans live to work while French work to live’.

Finally, Emily realizes her previous formula of survival ‘fake it till you make it’ won’t work here.

 She decides to go real with her Instagram caption ‘Lonely in Paris’, which has also shown an increase in followers.

Viewers are also given a glimpse of her hot French neighbor ‘Gabriel’.

How will Emily survive this transition?
